Brown Damascus barrels signed "ALEX HENRY, EDINBURGH AND LONDON" in gold on the solid rib with flourishes of gold inlaid floral motifs at the muzzles and breech, blade front sight on a ramp base with matching gold embellishment, three leaf rear sight graduated to 200 yards, extractor and London black powder proof marks on the barrel flats. Casehardened action featuring extensive gold inlaid floral motif with silver inlaid accents, lock plates signed "Alex. Henry" in gold and with rebounding hammers, gold inlaid crouching tiger in an oval panel on the left lock, gold inlaid lion in an oval panel on the right lock, gold inlaid running antelope on the trigger guard, the barrel release, trigger guard, hammers, compartment grip cap, forearm hardware, sling eyelets and buttplate all floral inlaid in gold to match, and nitre blue sliding hammer safeties. Nicely figured 14 1/2 inch pistol grip stock with checkering, blank gold initial oval, cheekpiece and skeletonized buttplate. Comes with its original brass cornered oak and leather case with blank brass initial plaque on the lid, lined in red velvet with a leather "Alexander Henry/Edinburgh & London" trade label with gilt lettering on the inside, C&JW Hawksley oiler, and reloading tools. Donald Dallas has kindly confirmed that this rifle is listed in the Henry records as a "Double Mini Express Rifle .360" and was made in 1883. The rifle remained in stock until 1887 when it was gold embellished, no doubt for a Maharaja, and sold through Henry's London shop.

Extremely fine. The barrels retain 40% of the original brown Damascus with smooth gray patina on the balance and a few very small patches of pitting. Patterns of original case colors remain on the action. Nearly all of the gold and silver remains. The re-oiled wood is also fine with minor age related dings and scratches and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent. The case is good with handling/storage marks throughout, handle and straps absent, and numerous scratches on the worn lining. All of the trade label remains.
