Winchester Model 1866 Lever Action Rifle with Desirable Henry Patent Barrel Address

Manufactured in 1868 as a second model with the single upper tang screw. The rifle has the highly desirable Henry patent barrel address ("HENRY'S PATENT-OCT. 16. 1860/KINGS-PATENT-MARCH 29, 1866") stamped ahead of the rear sight on the top flat. The barrel is fitted with a dovetail blade front sight and a folding ladder rear sight (elevation bar is absent). The bolt remains in its original .44 rimfire configuration. The serial number is correctly stamped on the left side of the lower tang. Sling swivels are mounted on the underside of the buttstock and forend cap. The rifle has a blued octagon barrel, magazine and loading gate and distinctive brass receiver, forearm cap and crescent buttplate. The trapdoor buttplate is numbered to the gun. Mounted on a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock. The '66 secured Winchester's place in the annals of the West and launched a long line of successful Winchester lever actions that remain popular to this day and still retain the basic form of the '66.

ConditionVery good plus. The barrel retains 20% original blue finish, otherwise the barrel and magazine tube have a smooth dark gray patina. Traces of original nitre blue remain on the loading gate. Patterns of original case colors remain on the hammer. The brass has an attractive appearance with an indentation visible rear of the loading gate on right side plate. The reoiled wood is fine with some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. A solid example of the famed Model 1866 Rifle that will be a welcome addition to your growing Winchester collection.
