This London factory engraved Colt Model 1851 Navy revolver was manufactured in 1855 and certainly would have been worthy of presentation to high ranking military officer, well-to-do gentleman, or a nobleman. It features high coverage fine English scrollwork and rosette engraving that even extends to the loading lever, wedge, hammer, and toe of the front strap. The top of the barrel has a brass cone front sight, "-> ADDRESS. COL: COLT. LONDON.<-" stamped on top accented by engraved double-line borders with flourishes of scrollwork at the front end, and London proof and view marks on the left just ahead of the wedges. The cylinder is roll-engraved with the standard Texas Navy battle scene and markings and has alternating proof and view marks. "Colts. Patent." is hand-engraved on a ribbon on the left side of the frame. The one-piece grip is highly figured deluxe walnut with a varnished finish. All of the serial numbers match, including the back strap mortise of the grip. The factory dot marking used to denote factory engraving is by the main serial number locations. It comes in a very scarce factory bird's eye maple case with directions for loading and cleaning label inside the lid, cleaning rod, L-shaped combination tool, Colt patent dual cavity bullet mold, oiler, Eley Bros. cap tin, "J. BARLOW/PATENT" bag shaped powder flask, and lead balls.

Fine with 95% plus of the original silver plating, strong traces of original blue finish and case colors, mostly smooth dark gray patina on the balance, some minor oxidation, a few small dings and scratches, ground off safety pins, mild edge wear, and crisp engraving and markings. The grip is very fine and has attractive figure, most of the original varnish, a few scrapes and dings, and light edge wear. Mechanically fine. The exceptional original case is very fine with mild storage related wear. The accessories are mostly very fine and have appropriate age related wear as well as a few small dents on the otherwise excellent flask. Overall, a very attractive London Navy featuring extensive and masterfully executed engraving.
