Description:

The handy Model 1849 Pocket was the most popular of all Colt percussion revolvers, but only around 11,000 were completed at the London factory before it closed in 1856 compared to around 26,000 Model 1851 Navy revolvers manufactured there making the London '49 Pockets particularly desirable. This one was manufactured in 1855 and has a brass cone front sight, "{ADDRESS. COL. COLT./LONDON.}" on top of the barrel, London proof and view marks on the barrel and cylinder, standard cylinder scene and patent markings, and matching serial numbers on the loading lever, arbor pin, cylinder, barrel, frame, trigger guard, and back strap. The wedge is not marked, and the number in the back strap mortise of the grip is faint but looks like it probably matches. The right side of the grip on the butt has a hand scratched "CWF" marking. The inside of the case lid has the Colt loading and cleaning label as well as separate "WILLIAM STEELE," and "GUN MAKER,/66 BRIDGES STREET, MANCHESTER" at the top and bottom respectively. The case contains a cleaning rod, several bullets/balls, Colt patent dual cavity bullet mold, L-shaped combination tool, W. & C. Eley cap tin, and James Dixon & Sons "COLT'S POCKET FLASK."

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus original blue on the barrel, 40% original case colors, patches of original blue finish in the protected areas of the grip straps, one pin on the front of the frame absent, some dings and scratches, minor pitting concentrated at the rear of the cylinder and hammer well, distinct cylinder scene and other markings, and general mild wear. The grip is also very fine, retains most of the high polish finish, and has some minor edge wear and dings. Mechanically excellent. The case and accessories are very fine with mild age and storage related wear. A very attractive cased set.
