These Colt muskets were produced throughout the Civil War under contract with the Union and state governments. An estimated 100,000 muskets were manufactured by the end of the war. Many were also sold privately through Schuyler, Hartley & Graham. This 1862 dated example has mostly the standard markings and features and has a conjoined "VP" proof near the breech and "N.J" markings on the left barrel and stock flats. Includes a "US" marked socket bayonet. A collection marking is on the trigger guard.
