Fine 'US' Marked J. Henry & Son Percussion Half-Stock Rifle

This rifle was manufactured around 1850-1860 and matches others by J. Henry & Son (James and Granville Henry) manufactured at the Boulton Gun Works near Nazareth, Pennsylvania. They contracted with the U.S. government to provide rifles for annuity and treaty payments to Native Americans in the Antebellum Era. This rifle is styled after the popular plains rifles and has a heavy octagon barrel with a German silver blade front sight and notch rear sight, adjustable double set triggers, a brass forend cap and lock screw washer, German silver barrel key escutcheons, browned iron trigger guard and buttplate, and smooth walnut stock with attractive shadow-line cheekpiece and "US" stamped by the trigger guard tang. The barrel and lock are both marked "J. HENRY/& SON."

ConditionFine with a smooth mix of blue and brown tones along the barrel, dark gray-brown on the lock and toe plate, mostly brown finish on the trigger guard and buttplate, some areas of minor oxidation, aged patinas on the brass, mild edge wear, and general minor marks and scratches. The stock is also fine and has smooth oiled finish, a few darker spots, and minimal light handling and storage marks. The lock pulls straight to full-cock, and it and the set triggers are mechanically fine.
