Description:

These distinctive American revolving rifles were manufactured circa 1835 to 1850 and are commonly called Billinghurst rifles because William Billinghurst was the most prolific and well-known maker of this pattern. However, at least 15 gunsmiths made the revolving rifle under the Miller patent, and it's estimated that only a few hundred were produced by all of them combined, including an unknown number by John and James Miller. There are partially obscured "J&J MILLER" markings on the barrel at the breech and the lock, a bead style blade front sight, fine notch rear sight, cylinder release on the bottom at the breech, manually revolved cylinder, brass furniture, light engraving on the action and lock, full-length forend, and checkered wrist with silver escutcheon on the top tang.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel, hammer, and lock show extensive pitting which been cleaned for preservation purposes. The cylinder has been cleaned and repaired at the stops and exhibits a mottled brown patina. The wood is good as repaired professionally and refinished and has some light scrapes and pressure marks, spliced bottom of the buttstock, minor slivers absent, and some slight chips. Mechanically fine.
