Description:

This Registered Magnum, registration number 787, has a 6 3/4 inch barrel, making it the only known Registered Magnum with this barrel length. Comes with the Registration Certificate and very rare certificate mailing tube addressed to N.W. Grigg of Seattle. The certificate confirms the 6 3/4 inch barrel, King red post ramp reflector front sight, King 112 rear sight and N.W. Grigg of Seattle as the recipient. The factory letter lists this revolver with an extremely rare 6 3/4 inch barrel, front sight King ramp reflector 1/8 inch red post, and rear sight King #112 when shipped on February 5, 1936 to Shapleigh & Co. of St. Louis. The inside of the frame is stamped "REG. 787", matching serial numbers are on the butt, cylinder, and ejector shroud, and fitted with high grade ambidextrous double ribbon Roper checkered target grips. The original box features an image of a .357 Magnum with a grip adaptor and Magna grips. The underside of the box has the correct white label numbered to the gun ("787"/47269") and an end has a white label hand marked "Grigg." Seattle resident Norval W. Grigg was an active member of The Mountaineers, an alpine club in the state of Washington founded in 1906 that remains active to this day. In 1932, Grigg was part of a four member team that won the Club Patrol Race. A year later Grigg and three other climbers were the first to chart the southwest route on Del Campo Peak. Located near the western edge of the North Cascades, the "incredibly steep" Del Campo Peak attracts experienced adventurers unintimidated by the fact that "a fatal fall is never more than a misstep away." "Breathtaking views of Seattle, Everett, Rainier, Baker, Glacier Peak and everything in between" await successful climbers at the top. Grigg was also part of the pioneering four member team that first ascended Del Campo Peak's "close neighbor," Gothic Peak.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retaining 99% plus original blue finish showing a cylinder drag line and limited handling evidence. Nearly all of the original case colors remain on the hammer and trigger. The grips are also excellent with crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The box is fine with a small separation on a short end and minor edge wear. This is an exceptional .357 Registered Magnum with an extremely rare 6 3/4 inch barrel, owned by a well accomplished mountain climber and a "definite must" for have the serious S&W collector! Provenance: Michael Speers (1982), Ray Cheely (1984) and Ray and Sheryl Cheely collection.
