The Ultimate U.S. Remington Model 1903 Bolt Action Rifle 'Milestone' Serial Number '3000000' the Very First Production Rifle

This is an absolutely rare one-of-a-kind ultimate Remington Arms Model 1903 collectors rifle serial number "3000000". That's right this is the very first Model 1903 rifle ever produced by the Remington Arms Company in 1941, right at the start of WWII. These 1903s were originally manufactured for England under the Lend Lease Program starting in May 1941 using the old RIA tooling and machinery. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, production was redirected back to the U.S for its own wartime use. Originally there were three versions of the Remington M1903 rifle; variation one looked like the original M1903 manufactured by Rock Island Arsenal, the second variation was a slightly modified 1903, which showed the wartime/expedient manufacturing shortcuts suggested by Remington and the last which had numerous wartime shortcuts, that evolved into the M1903A3. Any original unaltered Remington M1903 are almost impossible to find on the collector market today as many were shipped to Great Britain and on to New Zealand via the Lend-Lease program, some were provided to the USMC heading to the Far East with some later ones issued to the Army. Consequently survival rate is extremely low! This example has all the early original, fully machined type parts. The receiver is stamped: "U.S./REMINGTON MODEL/1903/3000000," and it has no gas hole on the left side, same as the original Rock Island production. The barrel is correctly marked "RA/Ordnance Bomb/10-41" and it has the early pattern rear sight base with the milled cutouts on the sides. It is fitted with all the correctly milled Remington "R" marked parts such as the barrel bands, complete trigger housing assembly, smooth face buttplate with "R" on the trap door, trigger and sear. It is fitted with an all blued, smooth body bolt, with the large "R" stamped on the underside. It has the small single gas hole on the underside, like a early RIA bolt and it is fitted with the milled "R" marked extractor also with the single gas hole. It is fitted with the all machined early blued M1903 cocking knob and safety assembly. The barrel is fitted with an early "R" marked milled, blued rear sight assembly with the bright face like the prewar M1903 rifles. It is fitted with a beautiful highly figured (tiger striped) straight grip, "S" style, stock with the two reinforcing bolts, with fingergrooves on the side of the forend. It also has its early pattern high hump Remington handguard. The left side of the stock is stamped with an original crossed-cannon and small unboxed Remington "RLB" cartouche and a late "RA-P" inspection proof from the Raritan Arsenal. The pistol grip area is also stamped with a single circled "P" proof. All the blued and parkerized parts are correctly stamped with a "R" for Remington Arms. Includes a canvas sling.

ConditionExcellent with 98% of its original Remington Arms blued and parkerized metal finish with a hint of edge and high spot wear with just some very minor signs of cycling wear on the bolt body. The walnut stock and handguard are both in excellent condition with only minor handling marks on the side with clear cartouches and proofs. Based on the condition, it is obvious that this rifle has never been overhauled or refurbished. It probably remained with the Remington Arms company and was just shipped out in one of the final shipments and then never issued. A true one of a kind US Martial Arms collector piece.
