Description:

This is a late WWII Springfield Armory M1C sniper rifle that was manufactured in February 1945, that is fitted with the late USMC MC1 type sniper scope and the correct, Griffin & Howe marked MC1 sniper mount. Springfield Armory manufactured approximately 7,900 M1C rifles between October 1944 and May 1945, with most WWII production being overhauled during the Korean War. Typically they were rebarreled with Korea War era barrels however a few still retained their original WWII barrels as in this example, which is marked "3 SA 2 45" . It also retains its original matching telescopic sight bracket which is serial numbered "3534814" on the bottom with the distinctive flat top "3" utilized by Griffin & Howe when the bases were originally installed during WWII. It has a mix of early and late WWII manufactured parts, mostly from Springfield with a W.R.A. marked bolt. As noted it is fitted with one of the very rare post Korean war USMC, MC1 sniper scopes manufactured by the Kollmorgan Scope company and the correct, corresponding larger Griffin & Howe MC1 sniper mounts. They were a huge improvement over all the previous sniper scope and were intended to replace the M82 and M84 scope. They had a fixed, 4X power with improved optics and the audible, click adjustable windage and elevation dials. The top of the tube is engraved with "MC 525-P" and the rear eyepiece is correctly marked, "4X DOUBLE STITH MOUNTS U.S.A., TEX./KOLLMORGAN OPTICAL CORP. BROOKLYN N.Y." The mount is also correctly roll marked on top with the two-line Griffin & Howe factory address and patent numbers and it is also etched with serial number "3347026", indicating it was previously issued on another M1C type sniper rifle. It is fitted with an unmarked walnut buttstock and handguard set with a steel checkered buttplate and a WWII green canvas sling. The stock shows a very faint large uncircled "P" proof in the pistol grip area with no other proofs. It has a dark black parkerized type metal finish with e oil finished wood components. The scope has the original black finish applied by the Kollmorgan Company, and the mount has a slightly gray/green parkerized finish. It is complete with an original T-37 prong type flash hider.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 98% the arsenal refurbished black (Greek Arsenal) type metal finish showing only minor edge wear. The scope and mount both retain 95% of their respective metal finish with clear sharp optics and some minor nicks on the W&E knobs of the scope. The wood components are in good condition as having been heavily arsenal refurbished with a dark oil finish overall.
