Exceptional Springfield Armory Model 1903 U.S. Army .22 Caliber Gallery Practice Rifle with Scarce Cartridge Adapters Tool

Also known by collectors as "Hoffer-Thompson." The barrel is marked "SA/ORDNANCE BOMB/3-08." The rifle has the early pattern stock with no reinforcing bolts. The handguard is the early pattern without spring clips or rear sight clearance cut. The rear sight is graduated out to "27." The rear sight aperture has platinum sighting lines. The safety lug of the straight handle bolt is marked "D4." The buttplate is smooth. Stock forearm tip is stamped with a small Roman "S." The stock, properly has no proof marks on the wrist and is stamped with a Roman style "K" inspection mark to the rear of the magazine cut off. The receiver has a blue-black, casehardened finish. Other components have a polished blued finish. The rifle is complete with five cartridge holders and tool. The rifle, correctly, has no ".22" markings on any component.

Rating definitionExtremely fine. The rifle has 80% original blued and casehardened finish. Most of the wear is concentrated on the trigger guard and floorplate. The reoiled stock and forearm are both in very fine condition and show only minor handling wear. All markings are sharp. One of the very finest .22 Gallery Practice rifles presently available.
