Description:

This is an exceptional example of a 1911 dated Rock Island Model 1903 bolt action rifle. Manufactured in much lower numbers than the Springfield 1903, Rock Island production halted in late 1913/early 1914. Fewer are seen with the N.R.A. marking, which traditionally indicates that they were subjected to careful inspection, including air gauging of the barrel to ensure accuracy, before being sold to a member of the National Rifle Association. The receiver has the standard four-line markings, and the barrel is stamped "R.I.A./flaming bomb/6-11" on top and the barrel steel code of "M16/P" on the underside. It has the standard blade front sight and the early musket rear sight with dished windage and elevation knobs and a polished face that is graduated from 100-2,700 yards and has a 2,850 yard volley notch. The bolt is blue with a straight handle. The trigger guard is stamped with a flaming bomb over "N.R.A." It is fitted with walnut straight grip stock with a boxed "C.N./1911" cartouche on the left side, a script "P" proof on the underside behind the trigger guard, single reinforcing bolt, and sharply checkered steel trapdoor buttplate with oiler. Includes "1911" dated Rock Island Arsenal bayonet and canvas sheath.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. 90% plus original fine blue finish remains with some light edge wear, scattered surface scratches and nicks, and crisp markings. The stock is also excellent with distinct inspection cartouche, small scattered dings, and some light spotting on the buttplate. Mechanically excellent. Bayonet is very fine as arsenal refurbished.
