This mid-18th century fusil features a bayonet stud/front sight, "crown/S E" and "GIRARD" marked lock with bridled pan, what appears to be "LxIABEZ" marked on the inside of the lock, mostly brass furniture, iron buttplate, a small circled "57" stamp near the toe on the right, and raised carving at the breech. Pierre Francois Girard (1674-1751) of St. Etienne was a contractor to the French monarchy and established a proofhouse that was certified in 1743.

Rating Definition:

Very good with a mix of dark brown patina and applied brown finish, dark patina on the brass, replaced feather spring, mild oxidation/pitting, repaired upper tang, and general moderate wear. The refinished stock is fair and has some chipping and cracks, a few repairs, and general dings and scratches. Mechanically fine.
