Description:

Manufactured around 1840-1841 in Boston by the shop of Aaron B. Fairbanks and John P. Lovell. Lovell was previously an employee, and the two men were only joint partners for a brief period due to Fairbank's untimely death due to tuberculosis. The barrel has blade and notch sights and is marked "FAIRBANKS/& LOVELL/6 INCH [??] BOSTON" on top of the octagonal breech section. This appears to be the shotgun pictured in the article "A.B. Fairbanks...The Yankee Gun-Smith" by Nick Chandler and identified as the only known gun marked for this partnership.

Rating Definition:

Fair with mostly a mix of gray and brown patina, some minor oxidation, moderate scrapes and dings, and general mild wear. Mechanically fine.
