Description:

Approximately 100 to 150 of these rifles were manufactured by Rufus Nichols and Edward Childs of Conway, Massachusetts, around the late 1830s. The design was patented on April 24, 1838. These are very rarely seen. This rifle has the "lacy patch box" shown in the "Flayderman's Guide" entry and is the variation without a loading lever and with the internal mechanism. It has asterisks around the muzzle, a dovetailed blade front sight, adjustable sporting rear sight with long tang, German silver furniture, a plain rectangular inlay on the shallow cheekpiece, and no visible markings.

Rating Definition:

Very good with gray and brown patina, some minor oxidation/pitting, aged patina on the German silver, and general mild wear. The stock is good and has subtle flame figure, dark finish, minor dings and scratches, and some cracks and repairs at the junction with the action. The action does not currently rotate the cylinder; otherwise, it is mechanically fine. These rifles are incredibly hard to find. We have not sold one in many years.
