The Moore No. 1 deringer was manufactured in the first half of the 1860s and was the first large caliber cartridge deringer. This same basic design was also manufactured by the National Arms Company and Colt later in the century. The pistol has the standard broad scroll engraving on the frame and breech of the barrel. However, the scrollwork on the left side of the frame has been replaced with a seldom encountered factory engraved game bird panel scene depicting a pheasant in a field. The brass frame also has the standard checkered grip panels.
