Description:

Thomas French, Blake and Adam Kinsley were awarded a contract for 4,000 Model 1808 muskets, all of which are believed to have been delivered. This example shows the lock markings "eagle/US/T.FRENCH" in front of the cock and "CANTON/1810" at the tail. The right of the buttstock is marked with dots forming the two letters "[?]D". It shows standard markings and features with a removable collection mark on the trigger guard. Includes an ill-fitting socket bayonet (hits ramrod when fixing).

Rating Definition:

Good, showing some brown patina, some mild pitting, and evidence of cleaning. The reoiled wood is good with some dings and chipping, a few hairline cracks, and a faint cartouche. No clicks in the mechanism but holds at full cock. The bayonet is good showing a mix of brown and grey patina with a minor crack in the socket.
