This lot consists of two matching percussion dueling pistols manufactured by Gardner of Newcastle. The lock plates, fish sculpted hammers, breech plugs, barrel tangs and spur trigger guards feature fine floral scrollwork engraving. The lock plates are equipped with sliding hammer safeties and are signed "GARDNER". The brown Damascus barrels are marked "NEWCASTLE" on the top flats. The breech plugs each have a platinum inlaid band. The pistols are equipped with fixed sights and non-adjustable "concealed" single set triggers. The barrels, underside barrel ribs, and front ramrod pipes are browned Damascus. The trigger guards and ramrod entry pipes are blue, and the remaining metal surfaces are casehardened. The half-stocks feature silver barrel wedge escutcheons, silver forearm tips, and checkering on the grip areas. The silver oval thumb escutcheons are initialed "CB" and engraved with a falcon and torse. The partitioned case is lined in red velvet, has brass furniture, a brass initial plate on the lid that matches the same initials and falcon as engraved on the silver thumb escutcheon and brass inlaid decorative border on the lid. The accessories include a few lead balls, ball mold, screwdriver, powder flask, cap container, nipple wrench, bore rod, key, and two spare nipples.

Rating Definition:

Extremely fine. The barrel retains 97% original brown Damascus with a patch of very fine pin point pitting at the muzzle. The rear ramrod pipe and trigger guard retain 95% original blue finish showing some thinning to a gray. The remaining metal surfaces retain 75% of original case colors in the protected areas, otherwise faded to a smooth dark gray. The stock is excellent with some minor handling marks and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine showing a couple cracks on the lid, some handling/storage marks and some worn lining.
