Around 30,000 Model 1812 muskets were manufactured in 1814-1816. This the Type I variation with the band springs all located behind the bands. It has a bayonet stud on top near the muzzle, brass blade front sight on the rear of the upper barrel band, "P/eagle head/V" and "U" markings at the breech, "US/eagle motif/SPRINGFIELD" at the center of the lock, "1815" at the tail of the lock and buttplate tang, "A TIBBUS" along with "JD" and several small "T" markings inside the lock, "CRC" on the trigger plate, "SM" inside the trigger guard bow, a collection marking on the outside of the bow, "US" on the left stock flat, cheek rest cut-out, and "SR" and an oval cartouche on the bottom of the stock behind the trigger guard tang. The socket bayonet has "IN" and "US" stamps at the base of the blade.
