Description:

The Third Model Dragoons were the last of the massive Colt percussion revolvers that began with the famous Colt Walker and were replaced by the more streamlined Model 1860 Army that was the primary service revolver of the Union Army during the Civil War. This commercial production Colt Third Model Dragoon Revolver was manufactured in 1860. Many Colt Dragoons saw use by both sides in the Civil War. Given this one was manufactured just before the war, it could have gone south of the Mason-Dixon line. It has a German silver blade front sight, "ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY" on top of the barrel, "COLTS/PATENT" on the left side of the frame, small "B" and "G" markings on the left side of the trigger guard, and all matching serial numbers (grip number not fully legible but likely matches).

Rating Definition:

Good with mottled gray and brown patina and light pitting on the steel, attractive aged patina on the grip straps, fractured wedge, broken wedge screw head, distinct markings other than the cylinder scene which is gone, and scattered dings and scratches throughout. The grip is also fine and has dark oiled finish, light scratches, a few small dents, and chipping at the toe. The timing is sometimes slightly off; otherwise mechanically fine.
