Description:

This commercial production Fourth Model Navy was manufactured in 1861 and is inscribed "Chas R. Hadley. Company E. 5th Reg. M.V.M." Private Charles Richard Hadley served in Company E of the 5th Massachusetts Militia at the beginning of the Civil War. Among their engagements was First Bull Run. It also has a brass cone front sight, the "-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-" barrel address, standard cylinder scene and patent markings, "2" on the left side of the barrel lug, and all matching serial numbers.

Rating Definition:

Very good with 30% plus original blue on the barrel, distinct cylinder scene and gray and brown patina on the cylinder, 25% original case colors, strong original blue on the trigger, 30% original silver plating concentrated under the grip, aged patinas on the silver and brass, some minor pitting, strong varnished finish on the grip along with some mild wear concentrated at the lower edges, and generally mild age and storage related wear. Mechanically functions fine, but is slightly out of time.
