One of 5,000 manufactured by Robert Johnson c. 1821-1824, who was one of many contractors to produce this pattern of "Common Rifle" for U.S. government contracts. It shows standard markings and features with barrel tang and lock are dated "1824", "JM" inspector mark, and "JN" cartouche. Removable collection marking on the trigger guard.

Rating Definition:

Very good as reconverted to flintlock configuration, showing a mixture of original and artificial brown with the balance a smooth grey patina and some evidence of light cleaning. The lightly sanded and reoiled wood is fine with minor dings scattered throughout, some minor edge chipping, and a few repaired hairline cracks. Mechanically excellent.
