Description:

Pomeroy manufactured around 7,000 of these muskets in 1840-1846. This one has the standard markings and features, an "1842" dated barrel tang, an "1844" dated lock, a collection marking on the trigger guard, and a "US" marked locking socket bayonet. Like the Model 1842 muskets, most of these Model 1840s were converted to percussion and rifled.

Rating Definition:

Very good as reconverted to flintlock configuration (barrel probably swapped when originally rifled and converted) with darker gray and brown patina along with some artificial brown on the lock, light gray patina and minor pitting on the balance including the bayonet, mostly distinct markings, a chip at the nose of the lock, some filler on the top of the wrist, and mild scrapes and dings. Mechanically excellent.
