Description:

This rifle was manufactured as part of a contract held by Henry Deringer of pocket pistol fame and later converted from flintlock to percussion. He manufactured 13,000 of these rifles in multiple variations between 1817 and the early 1840s. These arms are among the first widely issued rifled firearms used by any military and saw use into the Civil War era. This example has standard markings and features including "US/H. DERINGER/PHILADA" marked "1827" dated lock, "LS" and "US" on the barrel at the breech and "1827" dated barrel tang.

Rating Definition:

Good, showing a mixture of original brown finish and dark brown patina with minor to moderate pitting scattered throughout. The lightly sanded and reoiled wood is fine with some scattered minor handling marks and chipping, and faint cartouches. Mechanically excellent.

Description:

The Model 1819 Hall was the first widely issued military breech loading firearm and the first firearm manufactured with totally interchangeable parts. This one is dated "1831" and has been converted to percussion. It otherwise has the standard markings and features with an "M" cartouche at the rear of the trigger guard and a removable collection mark on the trigger guard. Includes a socket bayonet.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall as arsenal converted to percussion and refinished, retains 30% brown lacqeur finish mixed with brown patina. The revarnished wood is also fine and has minor dings scattered throughout and clear cartouche. Mechanically excellent. The bayonet is fair showing mostly a grey patina with mild pitting.
