Description:

This carbine is pictured on page 51 and 52 of "The Krag Rifle" by Brophy. This was the model used by Theodore Roosevelt's "Rough Riders" during their famous charge up San Juan Hill during the Spanish-American War. This carbine is also the "Variant Carbine" version without "MODEL" marked before the "1896." It also features a hood on the blade front sight, a correct carbine rear sight, standard Springfield markings other than no cartouche on the left side, and "B.D.L." and a circled script "P" on the bottom of the stock by the trigger guard tang. It has been fitted with a replacement bolt from a Model 1899 carbine featuring the small knurled cocking knob. The buttplate has a round trapdoor.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as arsenal refurbished with 80% plus of the blue finish, some isolated light spotting, a few dings and scratches on the very good re-oiled stock, and general minor wear. Mechanically excellent.
