Description:

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, despite its location on the East coast, the August Buermann Manufacturing Company was one of the largest producers of bits and spurs in the country, with their Star Brand spurs being known for their affordability and wide variety, as well as their quality. This example are only marked "W.F. Cody" in the style of William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody's signature. It is believed that this mark was added to Buffalo pattern spurs that were sold through the gift shop at his burial place shortly after his death. The heel bands are single mounted with buffalo heads on the lateral arms, drop shanks with chap guards ending in spoked rowels, and heel chains. Floral pattern tooled leather straps with large engraved conchos. Heel band width: 5/8" Shanks: 2 5/8" Rowel diameter: 1 1/4" Heel opening: 3 1/8".

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall, showing mostly age darkened bronze and mostly bright mountings with some light wear. The leather straps show light wear.
