Description:

With blacked barrels engraved with a band of foliage at each breech and struck on the underside of each tube "WESTLEY RICHARDS SPECIAL STEEL". Raised concave rib signed "WESTLEY RICHARDS. 23. CONDUIT ST. LONDON. GUN MAKERS BY APPOINTMENT TO HM THE KING" and with scroll engraved doll's head extension, bead front sight and gold inlaid number "1". Casehardened scalloped back action engraved with scrollwork and signed "WESTLEY RICHARDS" on each side on a ribbon, the top of the action engraved "WESTLEY RICHARDS PATENT ONE TRIGGER", blued top lever with gold inlaid number "1", and blued automatic safety with gold inlaid "SAFE". Blued scroll engraved hinged floor plate and engine turned locks respectively marked "R 1" and "L 1" in gold, each lock with rosette engraved cocking spur. Casehardened trigger plate with blued barrel selector, gold inlaid "R" and "L", and blued trigger guard engraved with a pointer. Well-figured 14 1/2 inch stock including 3/4 inch rubber faced recoil pad, checkered grip and forearm, and comb with glued thin leather cheek rest. The underside of the butt with gold escutcheon engraved with a crest and the motto "AQUILA NON CAPTAT MUSCAS". The release catch fitted to the forearm numbered "1" in gold, and the forearm with dark horn tip. Weight: 6 lbs. 8 oz., Birmingham nitro proof marks, 2 1/2 inch chambers, bored approx. .032 (Full) and .047 (Full) choke, barrel dimensions: right proved at 12, measuring .734, minimum wall thickness 27; left proved at 12, measuring .734, minimum wall thickness 27.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as partially factory refurbished during period of use. Barrels retain 80% of the finish with some thinning and crisp markings. Action retains 85% of the factory casehardened finish, while the floor plate and trigger guard retain nearly all of their blue finish. The engraving is well-defined throughout. Wood is very fine with sharp checkering and minimal handling marks. Mechanically excellent.

As described in "A". The barrel, top lever, and forearm with gold inlaid number "2", the locks are respectively marked "R 2" and "L 2", and the trigger guard is engraved with a setter. Weight: 6 lbs. 8 oz., Birmingham nitro proof marks, 2 1/2 inch chambers, bored approx. .032 (Full) and .047 (Full) choke, barrel dimensions: right proved at 12, measuring .734, minimum wall thickness 26; left proved at 12, measuring .734, minimum wall thickness 27. In maker's brass cornered oak and leather double gun case lined in green baize, the lid with Westley Richards trade label and instructions for cleaning and use. The case contains some accessories including a large Westley Richards oil bottle. The exterior of the case with blank leather insert where an owner's name has been removed.
