Description:

This trapdoor carbine was manufactured in 1874 and thus was manufactured well-before the Battle of Little Bighorn. It is believed that most of the 7th Cavalry carbines were in the 33000-43700 range. Many trapdoor carbines were used extensively by the U.S. Cavalry throughout the Indian Wars and also fell into the hands of the Lakota, Cheyenne, and other Native Americans. This example has the standard markings and features including a crisp "ESA" cartouche without a year. Collection marking in white under varnish on the bottom of the trigger guard.

Rating Definition:

Very good, retains 50% thinned blue finish and strong traces of case colors and patterns with the balance a smooth grey patina. The breech lock is a refinished dull dark gray. The refinished wood has minor dings and scratches scattered throughout, light wear, and a crisp modern restamped cartouche. Mechanically excellent.
