Description:

This is an exceptional, high condition, mid-production example of a early DWM model 1906 Commercial Luger. This series of Luger pistol was one of the very first commercial Luger manufactured by the DWM factory and is a primary piece in any early Luger collection. There were only approximately 4,000 ever manufactured for commercial sales with this one being chambered in the very rare and desirable "9mm Luger" caliber. This caliber was usually reserved only for military contracts. Since this is an early 1906 Commercial model it correctly has the unmarked/blank chamber area with the front toggle marked with the "DWM" logo. It is correctly numbered in the commercial manner with only the major serial number (64670) stamped on the front of the frame and underside of the barrel, with the last two digits of the serial number (70) stamped on the various other smaller parts. It has the standard Commercial "crown/N" proofmark on the left side of the barrel extension, the underside of the barrel above the serial number, the breechblock and front toggle. It has the standard first pattern safety with the lower area of the rear frame polished and unmarked with the extractor correctly marked "GELADEN". It is fitted with the correct, fully checkered walnut grips. These early commercial Lugers have all hand fitted parts with a beautiful rust blued finish overall with finely polished and straw colored small parts to include the trigger, take down lever, ejector and magazine release button. It is complete with one original early commercial magazine that has a tin plated magazine body with the walnut base. The base is correctly stamped in script markings: "Cal 9 m/m".

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus. The pistol retains 98% plus original, high quality blue finish with some minor muzzle and high edge wear. Nearly 97% of the original straw color remains on the small components. The grips are also excellent with a couple mild bruises in the otherwise sharp checkering. The markings are sharp. Mechanically excellent. One will have difficulty locating a better correct original example of this much sought after Luger variation! (Now is your opportunity!)
