Historic August Weiss Attributed Pair of Silver and Pearl Inlaid AW Inscribed Luger Grips, from the Personal Collection of Author Fred A. Datig, Pictured in His Book 'The Luger Pistol'

Pictured in a full page spread on page 227 of the 4th Revised Edition of Fred Datig's "The Luger Pistol (Pistole Parabellum)", this pair of grips is described as having been given to Datig by August Weiss, a retired Mauser and DWM executive. The two met while Datig was in Europe doing research following the publishing of the first edition of "The Luger Pistol". Weiss served as both a source of first-hand information on WWII Luger production and was responsible for many introductions, including an interview with Georg Luger Jr., son of the noted pistol inventor. The grips were originally presented to Weiss by his fellows at the Mauser plant, and when he was forced to surrender his personal firearms to Allied occupation authorities he retained the grips as a memento. Constructed from smooth well figured hardwood, both panels are decorated with a thick silver wire inlay, forming a clean and elegant scroll and geometric pattern while framing a smooth mother of pearl "burgher" shield. The right shield was left smooth and the left bears August Weiss' monogram. No markings are present on the back. The exact model of Luger is unknown, but the profile of the back side suggests that they would accommodate a 1900-style grip safety. NOTE: Due to the hand-fitted nature of Luger pistols, we are selling these grips as collectors items only, with no assurance that they can be installed on a specific Luger, either with or without professional modification and fitting.

ConditionFine. Some of the silver wire is starting to lift out of the cuts, but all is present and accounted for. A few light scratches are present on the surface. An attractive set of Luger furniture with an interesting, documented history.
