Description:

This is a desirable professionally restored example of a 1934 Mauser production "K" date "S/42" code military Luger pistol rig. The "K" date markings were intended to conceal Germany's rearmament in violation of the Treaty of Versailles, with all examples being manufactured in 1934. This was the very first actual German Army rearmament era Luger contract pistol, and examples are eagerly sought after by collectors. These K-date Lugers have an extremely low survival rate as almost all saw extensive service use on the Eastern Front. This example is actually a very late, Sub-variation 2 that still retains the mixed script and Gothic markings. There were only 3,550 of this variation produced out of the estimated 10,930 K-date Luger pistols. These pistols are typically found in the 1,700-5,250 serial number range, putting this example above the noted serial number rage. Interestingly, it is stamped on the front grip strap with "1/E.B. 3" which may indicate it was an early Bavarian para-military/police unit, possibly (Eichstaett/Bamberg). It has a script "K" date mark on the chamber area, the mixed script/Gothic "S/42" on the front toggle, and the Gothic "S" marked toggle. It has standard military marked serial number on the major parts with the mixed script/Gothic proof marks. The right side of the barrel extension has the script "S/early boxed "B/90 and S/37" acceptance stamps and a single eagle firing proof. The major components are all stamped with the serial number, and the last two digits are on the smaller parts. The "Gothic S" proof is on many of the parts. The pistol is complete with two later war time, Army type magazines with aluminum bases. One is stamped "418/m/+", and the markings on the second one have been ground off. It is also accompanied by a 1934 dated black leather holster. The front is stamped with a "eagle/A135" Waffenamt proof next to "LEDERWERKE/KARL ACKVAA.G./BAD KREUZNACH/1934". The back side is numbered "3999", and it comes with its original matching numbered takedown tool inside. It has a blue metal finish with straw colored small parts, and checkered walnut grips that are numbered "90" on the back sides.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 90% of a professionally restored blue finish, light edge and high spot wear, and some wear and thinning on the grip straps and high points to give it an old appearance. The small parts retain nearly all of their restored straw colors. The replacement grips have excellent checkering. The holster is in exceptionally fine condition with nice tight stitching and clear sharp markings.
