Description:

John Fleeger worked in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, outside Pittsburgh around 1831-1886 and owned Allegheny Gun Works. The rifle has traditional blade and notch sights, "J Fleeger" signed in script on top between the rear sight and breech, three-screw side plate, game scene and scroll pattern lock plate, adjustable double set triggers, plain brass furniture, and a finely figured maple stock with pin and screw affixed silver hunter star inlay on the cheek rest.

Rating Definition:

Fine as converted to flintlock (originally built as a percussion rifle) with distinct signature and dark brown patina on the barrel, artificial dark brown and partially obscured patterns on the lock, aged patinas on the furniture, crisp engraving on the added star, some chips and repairs on the forend and around the breech, attractive flame patterns along the length of the stock, and general mild wear. Mechanically needs work.
