This is a reproduction display model of one of the approximately 2,000 High Standard USA-HD-MS Model pistols manufactured under government contract for the OSS and similar organizations. These pistols were carried by OSS operatives and used for clandestine operations during the Second World War and beyond, as well as famously being carried by Lt. Gary Powers, whose U2 spy plane was shot down over the Soviet Union in 1960. The pistol carried in Powers' survival kit was captured and put on display in a museum in Moscow. This example shows the standard markings and features of the USA-HD-MS Model, though it is reported that some were manufactured for the OSS/CIA with no markings at all, creating "sterile" and deniable guns. The dummy barrel is plugged solid at both ends, and the baffle is absent with no provision for installation. A very interesting display piece for any U.S. military or special operations collection.
