Excellent Early Production U.S. Springfield Armory 1921 Dated Model 1903 National Match Bolt Action Rifle

This is an excellent example of a 1921 dated Springfield Armory Model 1903 Nation Match rifle. Note that 1921 was the first year for sales of the Model 1903 National Match rifles to the general public by the Director of Civilian Marksmanship. The rifle has standard Springfield Armory markings on top of the receiver. The barrel is marked "SA/flaming bomb/10-21", indicating that this rifle was probably manufactured for the 1922 National Matches. The rifle also has the standard early National Match features such as the arsenal polished and unnumbered bolt, the polished receiver side rails and follower and the barrel that has the star-gauge number "4837" located on top under the handguard instead of on the muzzle crown. The bolt is the correct double heated National Match version with the original arsenal polish, which is marked "W3L" on the top, with a punch mark and "K" on the bottom. Service style blade front sight and 2,700 yard adjustable ladder National Match rear sight with correctly polished face. Mounted with a post-WWI pattern handguard with "S" pattern grasping groove stock. The stock has a boxed "W.E.S." cartouche on the left side, a circled "P" proofmark in the pistol grip area, and a small sub inspector's "R" mark stamped in the cut-off recess. The finely checkered service style buttplate was used on National Match rifles prior to 1924. Includes a set of P.J. O'Hare front and rear sight covers.

ConditionExcellent plus, as issued. 98% plus original dark parkerized finish remains with some edge wear and scratches around the muzzle (likely caused by the front sight cover), sharp markings, and some very light patina on the correct armory polished bolt handle. The stock is also excellent with crisp markings and just a few small scattered dings. Mechanically excellent. An absolutely outstanding example of an early production U.S. Springfield Model 1903 National Match rifle!
