Description:

This is an excellent example of a very late WWII Zero-Series P.38 that is complete with a late WWII unmarked brown commercial holster and WWII capture papers. The zero-series P.38 were basically a commercial version of the military P.38 that was produced from 1939 until the end of WWII. There were approximately 30,000 produced for commercial sales both within German and throughout Europe. These were produced on the same manufacturing line as the military versions with many using a mix of some rejected military parts, (with and without military acceptance markings) with new manufacture commercial parts. This example is a very late war production example that has all correct matching numbers, including the frame, barrel, slide and locking block. This example is a blend of a commercial frame and barrel with a late war military marked slide. The frame and barrel are both new commercial parts, with the frame roll marked on the right side with only the serial number and the barrel correctly only marked with the serial number on the front barrel lug in the commercial manner with no acceptance proofs. The slide is a military part that is roll marked on the left side with: "P. 38" and "ac45" and on the right side with a military "eagle/359" Waffenamt and "eagle" firing proof but still correctly numbered on the top right slide rail in the zero-series commercial manner. The locking block is numbered "873" on the underside with a "eagle/359" Waffenamt proof on the side. It is fitted with the late WWII brown ribbed military grips; both have the correct military model marks on the back sides. It is complete with a single late WWII magazine marked "P.38v/U" on the side, an exceptional light brown unmarked holster, typical of what was produced at the end of the war, and a set of original capture papers indicating that it was brought home by a PFC Siebert Herlein in Dec. 1945.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 90% of the original late WWII blued finish, high spot wear, and thinning on the front grip strap. The grips are in excellent condition with a nice matching reddish/brown color overall. Mechanically excellent. The holster is in excellent, like new condition. A really nice high condition late WWII Zero-Series P.38 pistol with holster and capture papers.
