Description:

This is a scarce example of one of the approximately 29,000 M1 Carbine receivers that were manufactured by the Union Switch and Signal company for the Quality Hardware Company in the 3rd block of serial numbers starting in October 1943-March 1944. These received were marked "UN-QUALITY" to distinguish them as a subcontracted receiver from their original in-house Quality Hardware receivers. It has the standard receiver markings with the rear marked as noted above over serial number "4438564" and the barrel is marked "UNDERWOOD/2-44/Ordnance Dept Shell and Flame Insignia" with a small "P" proof in front of the barrel band. It still retains the unmarked type two barrel band, milled front sight marked "EU", without the staked punched mark, a two position, flip rear sight marked "S" on the side, a milled trigger housing with the smooth face, unmarked M1 magazine catch and push button safety. It is fitted with a walnut M1 carbine stock that has the overall oiler slot, stamped "RMC" in the sling slot, a "RMC" marked, two rivet handguard and a blued flat M1 carbine bolt. We can't provide any other markings as the carbine is stuck in the stock. Magazine absent.

Rating Definition:

Fine as reconverted back to World War II configuration with 80% of the arsenal parkerized finish still remaining overall showing general wear and finish loss on all the exposed metal surfaces to include the bolt area. The reoiled stock and handguard are both in very good condition with a dark brown color overall showing numerous light handling marks and nicks on the sides from use. The stock and handguard markings are clear and distinct. A very scarce and desirable Un-Quality M1 Carbine.
