Description:

Only 1,200 Model 1909 Double Action revolvers were manufactured by Colt for the Marine Corps and surviving examples are quite scarce. The revolver has the high polish Colt commercial blue finish and is fitted with the distinctive U.S.M.C. checkered walnut grips. The revolver butt is marked: "U.S./M.C." in two lines on one side of the lanyard loop and "No/40" below it. The serial number is marked on the inside of the crane and the frame, with the partial serial number on the rear of the cylinder catch, and matching full number on the back of each grip panel. The caliber designation, "COLT D.A. 45" is located on the left side of the barrel. The top of the barrel is marked with the Hartford address and patent dates in two lines. There is a small removable collection marking on the trigger guard.

Rating Definition:

Fine. 50% original high polished blue finish remains with areas of edge and high point wear, visible cylinder drag line, small nicks and scratches throughout, and a mostly gray patina on the grip straps. The grips are also fine with moderately worn checkering and small dings throughout. Mechanically excellent.
