Rare Colt's Patent Arms Manufacturing Company Paterson Long Gun Capper

The lid has the Rampant Colt above a Paterson rifle above crossed Paterson revolvers with exaggerated stocks. A double line border encloses: "[leaf]COLTS PATENT PATENT [leaf]/ ARMS MANG Co. PATERSON N.J." The knob has a ring for a lanyard. The inside of the capper and lid each have "95." The lid has an additional overlapping stamp. The follower is ratcheted and locks in place to aid in filling the capper. When the sliding catch on the back of the body of the capper is locked, the follower arm releases and pushes the caps to the mouth. This is certainly a more refined way to carry a good number of caps compared to having them loose in a cap tin or cap box.

ConditionFine with dark attractively aged patina on the exterior, traces of original niter blue on the mouth spring, brighter interior with mottled patina, nearly all of the bright original niter blue on the follower arm, and general minor age and storage wear. It functions excellently. This is an excellent piece from Samuel Colt's first firearms venture and is perfect for displaying alongside an appropriate Paterson rifle, carbine, or shotgun.
