This is very good example of a scarce original Belgium/Luxembourg Army Type D Light Machine Gun manufactured circa 1947 by the renowned company of Fabrique Nationale in Belgium. This was an improved and upgraded version of the original Browning BAR rifles that featured a quick change barrel, improved recoil spring assembly and a rate of fire reducing internal mechanism. It was also designed to be rapidly field stripped by just removing the rear trigger guard pin. This model was manufactured and exported to several other countries after WWII and was chambered in the original 30-06 cartridge (as in this example) and the 7.92 Mauser cartridge as used by Egypt. The top of the receiver is marked with "AL" indicating it was a contract machine gun for the Luxembourg Army. The side of the receiver is roll marked. "FABRIQUE NATIONALE, D 'ARMES DE GUERRE/HERSTAL-BELGIQUE". Along with serial number "158" and the left side of the barrel is stamped with the Liege proof firing stamp along with the standard British tonnage proof marks over serial number "AL 297". It has an all black painted type metal finish with walnut buttstock, carrying handle and pistol grips plates. This scarce machine gun comes with its original folding bipod and two extra original barrels: one in 30-06 and the other one in 7mm and 12 (total) original 20 round magazines.
