Manufactured about 1985, this rifle features a ramp blade front sight, folding notch rear sight, standard external markings, and a checkered pistol grip stock with a solid Winchester recoil pad. The bolt is unusual, essentially showing a mix of pre-64 and post-64 features. The bolt head is configured in the push-feed style (extractor absent), but the main body has been machined to accept a Mauser-pattern swiveling extractor collar, which is currently retained in place by a "U" shaped metal bracket. Attached tags read "MAUSER/TEST" and are dated "2/20/86"; as the Model 70 Classic was introduced in 1992, this rifle may have been part of the preparation to return Mauser-pattern controlled round feeding back to the Model 70 line, one of the features lost (and missed) when the design was changed in 1964. The included FN America Certificate of Provenance identifies the rifle by model and serial number, stating that is was previously a part of the Winchester Factory Collection where it was maintained by U.S. Repeating Arms.

Excellent, with 99% plus original blue finish, showing some minor handling marks. The wood has a few light scratches and dings, and a coating of protective grease is present overall. The bolt binds up a bit during extraction, otherwise mechanically in fine order.
