Manufactured in 1955, one year before Winchester officially introduced the .458 Winchester Magnum caliber to its Model 70 line, making it one of the last prototypes or mock ups of the Model 70 chambered in .458 Win. Mag. The barrel lacks the standard Winchester markings as it is only hand stamped marked ".458 WINCHESTER" followed by a factory oval proof on the left side towards the breech. An additional factory oval proof is marked on the receiver which has standard Model 70 Winchester markings including the pre-64 serial number. The bolt is unnumbered. Mounted on a Super Grade style high comb stock with multi-point checkering, ebony forend cap, nonstandard hard rubber Winchester marked grip cap, cheekpiece and black Winchester solid recoil pad. The included FN America Certificate of Provenance identifies the carbine by model and serial number, stating that it was previously a part of the Winchester Factory Collection where it was maintained by U.S. Repeating Arms.

Excellent overall, retaining 99% plus original blue finish showing limited handing marks, factory grease throughout and sharp stock checkering. Mechanically excellent.
