Description:

Manufactured in 1881 as a second model with the dust cover rail attached to the receiver by a screw and the dust cover later upgraded to the third model with serrations at the rear. It has standard Winchester markings and is fitted with blade front and folding ladder rear sights. The included factory letter confirms the current configuration including the special order casehardened receiver, set trigger, and shotgun buttplate, as well as receipt at the warehouse on 23 November 1881 and shipment on 27 December 1881 in order number 29098.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus, retains strong traces of the original blue finish thinning to a plum patina and faint traces of the original case color patterns in sheltered areas of the receiver with the balance an attractive mottled silver-grey patina. The wood is very good with some mild wear, minor handling marks scattered throughout, a repair and some minor chipping near the upper tang, and a few hairline cracks. Mechanically excellent.
