The accompanying factory letter lists this rifle with an octagon barrel in .30 caliber, plain trigger, plain wood, checkered pistol grip stock, hard rubber shotgun buttplate, half magazine and extra lightweight takedown configuration when received in the warehouse on August 5, 1898 and shipped the same day. Dovetail blade and three leaf sights on a barrel stamped with the two-line address and "30 W.C.F." on the top flat and the two-line nickel steel marking on the upper left flat. The tapered full octagon barrel is a rarely encountered and highly desirable special order factory feature. The upper tang has the three-line model trade mark information. The checkered pistol grip stock has a Winchester hard rubber grip cap and shotgun buttplate. The left side of the lower tang is marked "4753 SCF RB." The assembly number "4301" is stamped on the stock inlet, obviously a replacement.
