Cased, Factory Engraved, Etched, and Gold Accented Massachusetts Arms Co. Wesson & Leavitt Belt Model Percussion Revolver

Only around 1,000 of the Wesson & Leavitt Belt Model revolvers were manufactured by the Mass. Arms Co. in 1850 and 1851 before legal action by Samuel Colt halted production. In addition to the standard markings and cylinder etching, this revolver has higher quality engraving and gold trigger guard, grip washer, and back strap whereas silver plating on the latter components was standard. The back of the barrel "barb" and face of the arbor pin are marked "58," and the inside of the lock, underside of the back strap, front of the grip, and left side rear of the frame have "623." The grip has some nice figure. It comes in a hardwood case containing a Mass. Arms Co. bullet mold and powder flask as well as several lead balls.

Rating definitionVery good with 50% plus original bright blue finish on the barrel and barrel latch, mostly distinct etching and some strong original blue on the cylinder along with a section of light pitting, 40% original case colors on the lock and frame (most vibrant by the trigger), 95% bright original gold, crisp markings and engraving, and general mild wear. The grip is fine and has some mild edge wear and light scratches and dings. The projection portion of the tumbler rod is detached but present, and it remains mechanically fine. The case and accessories are very good and have moderate age and storage related wear.
