Less than 500 No. 5 guns were manufactured before 1913 when this grade was renamed the Crown Grade. Manufactured circa 1909. Dual white bead sights on the matte concave rib marked "MADE TO ORDER BY THE HUNTER ARMS Co FULTON, N.Y." with engraved bands at the muzzles, 2 3/4 inch chambers with ejectors, standard markings on the flats, and full chokes. The receiver and locks have full coverage floral and scroll engraving with L.C. Smith banner and hunting dog scenes on the locks of pointers on the right and setters on the left. Matching engraved trigger guard, tangs, and break lever, Hunter One single selective trigger, and manual sliding tang safety. Checkered walnut pistol grip stock and beavertail forearm with roller latch, engraved fittings (interior forearm fittings also engraved), and Morgan adjustable buttplate. Barrel and stock measurements are: bore diameter at 9 inches from breech .727/.727; choke constriction .034/.032; minimum wall thickness .027/.027; drop at comb 1 11/16 inches; drop at heel 1 15/16 inches; length of pull 14 1/2 inches; weight 8 Lbs. 6 Oz.

Good with 70% refinished blue on the barrels, areas of edge wear, small dings, light scratches, visible pitting under the blue, and the usual gold bar at the rear of the rib absent. The receiver and locks have an overall gray patina with traces of original case colors in the protected areas, some rough oxidation, spotting throughout, and well executed, detailed engraving. The wood is also good with small dings, scratches, and dents throughout, hairline crack behind the left lock, crisp checkering, and added adjustable buttplate. Mechanically excellent.
