The accompanying factory letter lists this rifle with a 19 inch barrel in .22 short caliber, fancy stock and blue finish when received in the warehouse on December 20, 1892 and shipped on January 13, 1893. The letter lists two repair and return dates (July 27, 1905 and June 18, 1910). The special order 19 inch barrel is an incredibly scarce length as standard barrels were 24 inches, and the special order "fancy stock" is nearly as scarce. Author Ned Schwing accounts for only 2 Model 1890s within the serial number range of 15,552-112,000 manufactured with 19 inch barrels and for only 165 Model 1890s within the same serial number range manufactured with "fancy stocks" in his book "Winchester Slide Action Rifles, Volume I" (see pages 310 and 313). The rifle also features a dovetailed blade front sight, an elevation adjustable "V" notch rear sight, 12 groove forearm, and straight grip stock fitted with a crescent buttplate. The left side of the lower tang is stamped "1113XXX." The partial assembly number "113" is stamped on the stock inlet, and the full assembly number "1113" is stamped on the buttplate.

Extremely fine, retaining 85% original blue finish with the balance thinning to a brown patina. Patterns of original case colors remain on the buttplate. The wood is very fine with minor handling marks, numerous scratches and retaining most of the original varnish. Mechanically excellent. An incredibly scarce Model 1890 short rifle missing from even the most advanced Winchester slide action rifle collections. A must have for the serious collector!
