Description:

Introduced in 1956, the Chinese Type 56 Assault Rifle is a direct descendant of the world famous Soviet AK-47 rifle. In addition to serving as the PRC's main-line infantry rifle through the 1980s, the 56 is also a major export item, seeing service with state militaries and non-state actors right up to the current day. On a less aggressive note, the Type 56 found a ready buyer in the American film industry; using the Type 56 as a stand-in for the AK-47 was easier and more cost effective than sourcing original Soviet rifles, and as such the Type 56 appears in many classic Hollywood action movies, both as-sold and with minor modifications to bring them closer to the original AK. This is an early example, manufactured at "Factory 66" and using an early pattern machined receiver, as opposed to the stamped receiver that became the de-facto standard for the AK and its descendants. Semi-hooded post front and tangent rear sights, with the barrel configured to accept a Soviet-pattern bayonet (instead of a semi-permanent Chinese folding spike), smooth forearm and buttstock, and a stamped checkered pistol grip. The right side of the buttstock is hand-marked "RHB/DFB" and "3K1/APPLIED RESEARCH". Matching serial numbers are present on the frame, gas cylinder (electro-pencil), dust cover, recoil spring guide, bolt carrier and bolt. Included with the lot is a tan canvas sling, bayonet (12 1/4 inches OAL, 8 inch blade, bakelite grips, metal sheath), two magazine carrier pouches, and eleven extra magazines.

Rating Definition:

Good. Much of the surface is a mixed gray patina, with mild spotting and handling marks, and the wood shows a number of dents and scuffs. Eight of the extra magazines show rust. Mechanically excellent. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
