Description:

This is an excellent late WWII German STG-44 assault rifle produced circa 1945 that is accompanied by its original WWII capture papers and application for import of a war trophy firearm. This was the final version of the of the MP43/44 series of German assault rifles that has the rare transitional blue/phosphate metal finish. The left side of the magazine well is stamped "4771y/45", and "StG 44" is on the upper portion of the receiver. The front underside of the receiver is stamped "fxo" indicating manufacture by the C. G. Haenel factory in Suhl. The left side of the trigger housing is stamped with a "WaA21" Waffenamt indicating manufacture by the Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik A.G. It has matching numbers on all the various parts including the buttstock, trigger housing, operating rod, and bolt. It has the very late war laminated buttstock and beech grip panels. As noted, it has the late war transitional finish with the blued receiver and receiver buttstock cap, a phosphate trigger housing and heat shield and barrel, the bolt and operating rod assembly in the white, and blued internal trigger group parts. These rifles were the first true production assault rifle ever manufactured in the world, and use the intermediate length cartridge 7.92x33mm Kurz, which provided the German soldier with a greater (200-600 meters) effective range than the standard 9mm Luger cartridge in the MP40s and less weight than the standard 7.92 Mauser (8mm) cartridge. The MP44/StGs are a marvel of wartime expedient manufacturing techniques using a combination of stamped sheet metal parts welded and pinned together with rough forgings and a minimum of machined components. It is complete with its original leather sling, three total original MP44 30 round magazines (two phosphated and one blued) and an original canvas magazine pouch. This weapon was original brought back by T/5 Roland Kyle of West Virginia in November 1945, and it was registered as a war trophy in January 1948.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% plus of the original WWII combination blue/phosphate metal finish noted above with the phosphate finish having darkened slightly over time. The buttstock and grip panels are also in excellent condition with only minor handling marks on the sides. An excellent example of a WWII War trophy bring back with capture papers. NOTE: This item is restricted as a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
