Description:

This is an exceptional example of a Model 1934 DWM/Mauser "American Eagle" Commercial Luger with the very desirable A.F. Stoeger markings. These American Eagle Lugers were made expressly for export to the United States by or from the newly formed "Mauser" factory. These were contracted with Mauser by the A.F. Stoeger Company in New York, who was one of the largest, if not the largest, firearms importer in the 1920s and 1930s. The chamber is marked with the American Eagle crest, and the front toggle has the DWM markings for the Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken. It is chambered for the 7.65 mm Luger cartridge with the 6 inch Navy-style barrel. The right side of the barrel extension is rolled marked with a small, "GERMANY" followed by "A.F. STOEGER, INC./NEW YORK." with the right side of the frame roll marked "LUGER - REGISTERED U.S. PATENT OFFICE". It is marked "GELADEN" and "SAFE" respectively on the extractor and under the safety lever. The front of the frame is stamped with the serial number and "GERMANY", with "403" on the unproofed barrel and matching 2-digit serial numbers on other components in the commercial pattern. Traditional fixed sights are installed, with straw finished small parts, checkered grips, and a nickel finished magazine with an unnumbered "GERMANY" marked hardwood base. A custom case with a French-cut interior for the pistol is included.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, with 98% plus retailer finish, showing some light wear and handling marks overall. The barrel correctly has a rough texture around the breech and no visible witness mark; Stoeger was known to install special order barrels on client request, using original tooling procured after WWI to execute factory-quality custom outfitting. Around 60% of the straw colors are present, with bright niter blue present on the sear spring. The grips are also very fine, with some dings and dark spots. The case is excellent. Mechanically excellent.
