Description:

Manufactured in 1889. The Model 1888 was developed in response to the popularity of Winchester and Colt's pistol-caliber repeating rifles and carbines. However, due to the adoption of Marlin's signature side eject models, the 1888 was condemned to only a two-year production run, with less than 5,000 made. Only 266 were manufactured with round barrels. It has standard markings, fitted with blade front and buckhorn rear sights, and mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retains 95% plus bright original high polish blue finish and 75% original case colors with the balance a smooth grey patina, some light spotting, and some light oxidation speckled on the buttplate. The wood is also excellent with a few scattered light scratches and dings. Mechanically excellent.
